Tachograph

On-board device recording driving time, rest periods and speed for heavy and professional vehicles.

Definition

The tachograph is a mandatory recording device on heavy vehicles (trucks over 3,500 kg and buses over 9 seats) and professional transport. It records driving time, breaks, rest, speed and, on digital units, the driver card. It enforces EU rules on driving and rest times and lets traffic inspections verify legal limits.
