Definition
A reflector — known in Spain as a catadióptrico — is a passive safety device, without its own light source, that reflects incoming light (for example, headlights from another vehicle) back to the driver. It is used to make a vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian or roadway feature visible at night or in low visibility.
Key facts
- Passive element: it doesn't emit light, only reflects it.
- Rear vehicle reflectors are always red.
- Trailers and semi-trailers must carry red triangular reflectors on the back.
