Definition
The seat belt is the vehicle's main passive safety system. It is mandatory for all occupants, front and rear, on any road and at any speed. In a 50 km/h crash it multiplies survival odds by 5 versus not wearing one.
Key facts
- Mandatory for every occupant, front and rear.
- Improper use (loose or under the arm) drastically reduces effectiveness.
- Pregnant occupants must always wear it, with the lower belt below the abdomen.
- Under 1.35 m must use a child restraint system (CRS), in rear seats.
