High beams

Long-range front lights that illuminate about 100 metres ahead of the vehicle.

Definition

High beams (luces largas) illuminate about 100 metres ahead. They can only be used outside built-up areas, on unlit roads, and when no other vehicle is being met or followed at short distance, to avoid dazzling them.

Key facts

  • Three times the range of low beams.
  • Only on unlit interurban roads without nearby vehicles.
  • Switch to low beams when meeting or following another vehicle within 150 m.
  • Forbidden in built-up areas, except emergencies.
