The general rule prohibits reversing, subject to article 80.1: when forward travel and turning or making a U-turn are impossible, or as a complement to a manoeuvre requiring it, always for the minimum necessary distance. As a complement to stopping, parking or joining traffic, it must not exceed 15 metres or enter an intersection. Reversing is prohibited on Spanish autopistas and autovías. Article 81 requires signalling and safe execution.
