How to check your theory exam result
- Open the official DGT exam-results service.
- Enter your DNI or NIE, date of birth, exam date and licence class in the DGT form.
- Check the details and look up whether your result is APTO or NO APTO.
- If the result is missing, check publication times and your details before reporting a problem.
The online office describes the service as available to anyone who has taken a theory or practical test in the last 15 days. Three things are needed to find your test:
- Your personal data: DNI or NIE and date of birth.
- The date of the exam you sat.
- The licence class you were examined for (B, A2, C, AM…).
The DNI alone is not enough: the search also needs the exam date and the licence class, which is what fails when someone tries to look their score up "with the DNI" and gets nothing back. If you cannot remember the exact date, your driving school can confirm it. The DGT also lists the procedure as free, so any site charging you to show an official grade is not the DGT.
The computer-based theory exam, the usual format at exam centres, has its result that same afternoon. If you sat it on paper, it is the next day. The exact time is in the section "What time results come out".

How to check your practical exam result
You check the practical exam result through the same service and with the same data as the theory result: DNI or NIE, date of birth, exam date and licence class. The difference is the timing: according to the procedure page, practical exams and paper theory tests are available the day after the exam, from 17:00.
In the on-road test the examiner also tells you the outcome when the exam ends (the General Drivers Regulation includes communicating the results as part of the test itself), so the later lookup usually works as confirmation. The DGT publishes results in batches, not the moment your test ends. For the computer-based theory exam, the result is available the same afternoon, from 17:00. For the on-road practical exam and for theory tests sat on paper, it moves to the day after the exam, again from 17:00. Results stay published for 15 days.
Those two facts explain almost every lookup that "doesn't work". If you left the exam mid-morning and by lunchtime the system returns nothing, it most likely has not been published yet. And if three weeks have passed and the result does not show, that is not a fault either: the 15-day window has closed.
If your result does not appear
Rule out the obvious first: that 17:00 has passed on the day that applies to your type of test, that no more than 15 days have gone by since the exam, and that the date and licence class you enter are the ones from your sitting.
If everything matches and the result still does not show, the official instruction is direct: go to your driving school and report the incident so they can notify the DGT and resolve it. The complaint route runs through the centre that managed your sitting. If you sat the exam independently, the in-person channel the DGT lists is the traffic office (Jefatura u Oficina de Tráfico), with an appointment booked online or on 060.
What APTO, NO APTO and not shown up mean
The General Drivers Regulation (art. 53) grades every test, theory or practical, only as apto (pass) or no apto (fail). A pass is valid for two years from the day after you were declared apto in the test.
- APTO. You passed the test. In the theory test, errors cannot exceed 10 % of the questions; with 30 questions, 3 wrong answers at most.
- NO APTO. You did not pass the test. In the theory test, more than 10 % errors. In the on-road practical test, one eliminatory fault, two deficient faults, one deficient and five minor faults, or ten minor faults.
- Eliminatory. It has two uses. An eliminatory fault is one that endangers your own safety or other road users', and one is enough to be graded no apto. And the tests are eliminatory in sequence: if you do not pass the knowledge test, you do not move on to the aptitude and behaviour tests.
- Not shown up. According to the DGT online office, not attending an exam means it is graded NO APTO and the convocatoria (sitting) you were in is used up. Only in exceptional, duly justified cases can you request the annulment of the appointment, providing documents that prove it.

How many times you can sit with the same fee
Fee 2.1 is €94.05 and grants two convocatorias (sittings) for the exams. Fails are what count: if you fail twice, in the same test or in different tests (theory or practical), you must file a new application and pay a new fee. Not showing up also uses up a sitting.
- No more than six months should pass between the two sittings of one file, except for illness or other duly justified cases (art. 51.2 of the regulation).
- The Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico sets each exam date at the applicant's request, according to its capacity. The fee page does not state a minimum wait between sittings.
- A passed test is kept for two years. If you do not obtain the licence in that period, you have to sit all the tests again (requirements and sitting the exam).

I passed: what next?
If you passed the B licence theory exam, the next step is the driving lessons and the on-road exam, explained in the DGT practical exam guide. A passed theory exam is kept for two years to pass the practical one as well. If you pass all the tests, the DGT magazine says you can drive with a three-month provisional licence while the final licence arrives at your home.
I failed: what next?
A NO APTO does not close the road: the same fee gives you two sittings, so if it is your first fail you can sit again without paying anew. I failed the theory exam carries a 10–14 day plan to retake it, and how many times you can retake covers the admin: sittings, the fee and the gap between attempts. To practise, start with a DGT test.

How to read this data
- Each figure counts exam sittings, not unique learners: someone who fails and retakes is counted several times.
- Percentage = passes / (passes + fails).
- The province tables leave out 20,197 permit B sittings (theory and on-road) that the file records without a province (N.D.); the permit table counts them.
- One record with an unreadable counter ("####", 1,000 or more) is excluded from every calculation.
- Figures can differ slightly from table 110 of the 2025 General Statistical Yearbook, which adds up all permits and reports 51% passes in the theory test nationally.
