Everything about the A2 license in Spain
The A2 licence authorises motorcycles up to 35 kW (47 hp) of power and a maximum power-to-weight ratio of 0.2 kW/kg, either factory-spec or limited from a higher-power bike. The minimum age is 18. If you hold an A1 with more than 2 years' seniority you can step up to A2 with a reduced practical exam — you don't need to retake the theory. After 2 years on A2 you can access the A licence (unrestricted-power motorcycles).
The A2 theory exam is the same as A1: 30 questions, 30 minutes, 3 errors max. Bike-specific questions cover gear, riding technique, passenger restrictions (in some cases you cannot carry a pillion for the first 2,000 km), and speed/motorway limits. The practical adds closed-circuit manoeuvres (slalom, figure-of-eight, emergency brake, slow-speed balance) and an on-road test.
If you are coming from a B licence with 3+ years' seniority and want a 'standard' A2 (not the A1 → A2 bridge), you must sit the common DGT theory, the medical exam and the full practicals. Total cost is around €700–€1,300. The big advantage of A2 over A1 is that it opens almost the entire mid-range bike market — naked bikes, light sport bikes and road motorcycles limited to 35 kW.
