B licence vs A2 licence
Useful if you're choosing between car and motorcycle. B lets you drive cars up to 3,500 kg from age 18: the most general licence. A2 lets you ride motorcycles up to 35 kW from 18. Holding B for 3 years also entitles you to ride A1 (125 cc) bikes in Spain without a specific exam, which often resolves the dilemma.

Requirements and tests: B vs A2
Both have 18 as the minimum age and neither requires a previous licence, so the choice is about the vehicle. The B asks only for the general theory test; the A2 asks for general and specific, although a valid A1 exempts you from the specific one.

Which one should I get first?
Both licences have the same minimum age (18), so the decision depends on which vehicles you'll actually drive and the cost of each training. Look at the comparison table above: the licence whose vehicles match your real use is the more efficient bet.
What is required for the A2 if I already hold the B?
For the A2: No previous licence is required. Tests: General and specific theory test. Practical closed-track and road tests. The general theory test is waived if you hold a valid licence that required it or passed it within the last two years. A valid A1 licence exempts you from the specific theory test. With A1 and at least two years of experience riding its motorcycles, progressive access requires the road test under article 49.2. For the B: No previous licence is required. Check current conditions on the DGT website before enrolling.
What does the fee cost and how long is each licence valid?
Fee 2.1 for the B: EUR 94.05 covering two attempts. Fee 2.1 for the A2: EUR 94.05 covering two attempts. Validity under 65: B, 10 years; A2, 10 years. It may be shortened for medical reasons.
