B licence vs B+E licence
B allows cars and combinations as long as the trailer is light (≤750 kg). B+E is the extension that lets you tow heavier trailers with a car. You only need it if you'll tow caravans, boats or heavy load trailers. Otherwise, B is enough.

Requirements and tests: B vs B+E
The B+E extends the B rather than replacing it: it requires a valid B and has only the specific theory test. It covers combinations with a trailer or semi-trailer up to 3,500 kg MAM; the B alone allows a trailer up to 750 kg, or a combination up to 4,250 kg with an additional test above 3,500 kg.
