BDifficulty 2/5

At night, a vehicle using main-beam headlights has just been overtaken. Its lights may dazzle the driver now ahead through their mirrors. What must it do?

Correct answer

Change from main-beam to dipped headlights.

Switch to dipped headlights as soon as a possibility of dazzling is apparent. This applies to vehicles travelling in the same direction and those approaching. Do not wait for a parallel position; main beam is not prohibited in every overtaking manoeuvre. Avoiding dazzle and meeting lighting-use conditions are decisive. Being overtaken does not itself require always slowing down.
