Select a low gear before going down
Before descending, select a suitably low gear for the combination, slope and speed, following the vehicle instructions. Engine braking helps control speed and reduce service-brake heating; it does not guarantee they will never overheat. Do not descend in neutral or rely exclusively on the service brake. Avoid a gear that would exceed the permitted engine speed.
