BDifficulty 2/5

You drive at night with main beam and there is a possibility of dazzling pedestrians on the shoulder. Must you switch to dipped beam?

Correct answer

Yes, to avoid dazzling.

Yes. Article 102 requires switching from main to dipped beam as soon as any road user, including pedestrians, may be dazzled. This does not depend on a straight road section. Avoid dazzling oncoming drivers or those ahead travelling in the same direction through their mirrors. Main beam may be restored when legally appropriate and that risk has passed.
