Correct answer
To indicate the presence of a vehicle in a built-up area
It indicates the presence of a vehicle parked in a built-up area. On an insufficiently lit through road in a built-up area, between sunset and sunrise, the position lights of a vehicle parked in line may be replaced by parking lights or by both position lights on the carriageway side. This is not a mandatory substitution in every low-visibility situation and is not equivalent to hazard warning lights.
