A circular traffic light before a junction shows a steady red light, with no green arrow authorising your movement. Where must you stop?

A circular traffic light before a junction shows a steady red light, with no green arrow authorising your movement. Where must you stop?

Correct answer

Before the traffic light's stop line, and if there isn't one, at the traffic light, always without going beyond it.

Before the nearest stop line preceding the signal, if present; otherwise, without passing the signal. If the signal were within or on the far side of the junction, you must not enter the junction or pass its preceding stop line. This does not allow you to drive through a junction up to a red signal situated beyond it.
