BDifficulty 2/5

On a road with one lane in each direction, a lorry is overtaking and it is not possible to see the road ahead. Can you position yourself behind the lorry to overtake?

Correct answer

No.

On a road with one lane in each direction, if a lorry is overtaking and blocks visibility of the road ahead, it is not safe to position yourself behind the lorry to overtake. Even if there is no sign clearly indicating this, the Traffic Regulations state that overtaking is prohibited when the manoeuvre cannot be carried out with sufficient visibility and safety. This restriction includes situations such as bends and changes in gradient with reduced visibility, as well as adverse weather conditions that reduce visibility. It also applies when the view of the road ahead is obstructed by another vehicle, such as a lorry.
