Correct answer
Service area.
A designated part of the service area. Article 94 prohibits stopping or parking on motorways outside designated areas. The hard shoulder, central reservation or an island are not places for a voluntary stop. Immobilisation due to a breakdown or emergency has its own rules and must not be confused with stopping to rest.
