BDifficulty 2/5

If safe before a substantial speed reduction, how can you warn the driver behind using brake lights?

Correct answer

Operate them repeatedly if safe and possible before slowing.

By operating them repeatedly where possible under article 109.2.c. Gentle warning touches before slowing may be used without creating danger or delaying necessary braking. This does not mean pumping the pedal during an emergency stop: for a vehicle with ABS, DGT says press the brake fully without releasing pressure even if the pedal vibrates. The left indicator and position lights do not replace that braking warning.
