CDifficulty 3/5

If you are driving a lorry with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of more than 3,500 kilograms on a road outside a built-up area with three lanes for the same direction, which lanes are you permitted to use?

Correct answer

The right-hand lane, but you may also use the adjacent one when traffic conditions advise it.

When the carriageway outside a built-up area on which we are driving our lorry with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of more than 3,500 kilograms has 3 or more lanes for the same direction, drivers of lorries and vans with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of more than 3,500 kg must normally travel in the right-hand lane, and may use the adjacent lane when traffic or road conditions advise it, provided they do not hinder the progress of another vehicle following them.
