In general they are performed on the driver’s initiative, but not all are voluntary. A position change may be required by traffic, for example changing lanes to pass an obstruction. A manoeuvre involves a departure from normal progression that affects traffic; simply following the natural curve of the road is not itself a manoeuvre. Follow safety rules and applicable instructions.
