BDifficulty 2/5

On a bend on a two-way road with restricted visibility, may you overtake by entering the area reserved for opposing traffic?

Correct answer

No; in these conditions you cannot enter the opposing-traffic area.

No. Article 87 prohibits overtaking on bends and other places with restricted visibility, except when directions are clearly separated and the manoeuvre can be completed without entering the opposing area, subject to other safety conditions. The prohibition is not limited to novice drivers or a vehicle category. A left-hand lane travelling in the same direction is not itself an opposing-traffic area.
