The safety distance.
A distance allowing it to stop without a collision if the vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, taking speed, grip and braking into account. There is no general fixed minimum of 50 or 100 metres in this situation. Tunnels and underpasses have specific following distances when not overtaking, which must not be confused with this rule.
