A2Difficulty 3/5

Outside a built-up area, you overtake a bus on the right on a two-wheeled motorcycle. The bus clearly signals a left turn, there is enough space and the manoeuvre is permitted and safe. What risk should you anticipate as you emerge from its wind shelter?

Correct answer

You should be prepared in case, once you have overtaken the bus, you are affected by a possible sideways gust of wind

A possible sideways gust, which can suddenly change wind pressure on the motorcycle. Use smooth control and leave room; this does not mean a gust always occurs. Article 82 permits this right-side overtake with sufficient space and utmost caution. As a two-wheeled rider outside a built-up area, leave at least 1.50 m from the bus’s outermost parts, not a maximum of two metres.
