CDifficulty 1/5

Under the current general rule, when overtaking a pedestrian with a motor vehicle, what minimum lateral clearance applies both within and outside built-up areas?

Correct answer

At least 1.5 metres in both cases.

At least 1.5 metres, without creating danger. Occupy part or all of the adjacent or opposing lane; where there is more than one lane per direction, a complete lane change is mandatory. Outside built-up areas, before starting and throughout the manoeuvre, travel at least 20 km/h below the road limit. Do not overtake if doing so endangers or obstructs oncoming users. The current rule does not limit this clearance to overtaking outside built-up areas.
