It must be authorised to carry a passenger and have the appropriate seat and supports. Age rules and exceptions, sitting astride behind the rider, feet on footrests and the applicable helmet requirement must also be met, among other conditions. For mopeds, RD 518/2026 allows certified helmets to continue being used for one year from 1 October 2026. Holding tightly or making a short urban trip does not replace those requirements.
