Manoeuvre. This is the general concept; overtaking and passing an obstruction are particular cases, not equivalent names for every manoeuvre. It usually follows the driver’s initiative but may be required by circumstances, such as changing lanes to pass a stationary obstruction. Following a road’s normal curve or resuming movement when a traffic light turns green is not in itself a manoeuvre.
