BDifficulty 2/5

When overtaking pedestrians in a car outside a built-up area on a road with one lane per direction, what minimum lateral clearance must you leave?

Correct answer

At least 1.5 metres.

At least 1.5 metres and use part or all of the adjacent or opposing lane, carrying out the manoeuvre safely. Article 85.4 also requires reducing speed to at least 20 km/h below the road’s limit before and during overtaking outside built-up areas. Where there is more than one lane per direction, a full lane change is required.
