At the start of the acceleration lane. Check the position, course and speed of traffic on the carriageway there and stop if necessary. Then accelerate to reach an appropriate speed at the end and merge only safely, giving way. This rule does not guarantee every merge is safe or permit forcing entry if circumstances change along the lane.
