BDifficulty 2/5

When there is accumulated snow on the road, how should you drive?

Correct answer

Braking and accelerating gently.

Use the accelerator, brakes and steering smoothly, reduce speed and increase the following distance. Select a gear suited to maintaining grip and control: advice to use higher gears on level ground or uphill must not be applied indiscriminately downhill, where speed must be controlled. Tracks may help in accumulated snow, but compacted or frozen snow requires particular caution. Follow restrictions and required chains or suitable tyre rules; these measures cannot guarantee prevention of a skid.
