Leave safe lateral clearance of at least 1.5 metres; this is mandatory, not merely recommended. Where there is more than one lane per direction, change lanes completely. Outside built-up areas, before beginning and throughout the manoeuvre, travel at least 20 km/h below the road’s limit. If you cannot meet the conditions safely, wait; the minimum distance does not guarantee every manoeuvre is safe.
