C+EDifficulty 3/5

You park your lorry with a non-light trailer on a downhill slope with an inclination of 8%. What must you do if you leave the driving position and there is no kerb against which to rest the wheels?

Correct answer

Leave it properly secured using suitable chocks for this purpose.

Use suitable wheel chocks: the combination is parked on a significant slope and there is no kerb against which to rest a steering wheel. Article 92.3 also requires stopping the engine, switching off the starting system and applying the parking brake; with a gearbox, select reverse downhill or the parking position as applicable. Reverse alone does not replace chocks. Do not use stones or objects not designed for chocking, and remove the chocks from the road before moving off.
