A series connection: join the positive terminal of one battery to the negative of the other; the two free terminals provide nominal 24 V. This is not a parallel connection, which retains 12 V. This describes the circuit arrangement, not jump-starting a vehicle with a discharged battery: jump-starting requires matching voltage and manufacturer procedures.
