BDifficulty 1/5

A vehicle suffers a breakdown, without fire, inside a tunnel and can still move safely. What should the driver do?

Correct answer

Continue to the exit and, if that is impossible, head to an emergency area.

Under article 97.3.f, continue until leaving the tunnel; if that is impossible, head to an emergency area in the direction of travel. Do not stop arbitrarily inside if the exit or area can be reached safely. If immobilised, use hazard and position lights and follow tunnel and emergency-service instructions. Breakdown or fire rules should not be confused with those for a traffic queue.
