A2Difficulty 3/5

According to the DGT’s provisional 2024 report on deaths within 24 hours on interurban roads, which road group accounted for more fatalities?

Correct answer

The remaining interurban roads, outside the motorway and dual-carriageway group.

The remaining interurban roads: 831 fatalities, compared with 323 on motorways and dual carriageways. Table 8 divides the total into those two groups; approximately 72% belongs to the former and 28% to the latter. These are provisional 2024 figures counting deaths within 24 hours and excluding urban roads. They do not establish that all crashes happened on straight sections or at 50–80 km/h, and do not describe risk per kilometre travelled.
