AMDifficulty 3/5

An officer on foot moves an extended arm alternately up and down. You approach from that arm’s side, perpendicular to it. What does the signal order you to do?

Correct answer

Reduce speed.

Reduce speed. Under Annex I section 1.1.d, this signal requires vehicles approaching from the signalling arm’s side and perpendicular to it to reduce speed. It does not itself mean stop or turn towards that side. Do not confuse it with a vertically raised arm or the officer’s other signals.
