Check tyre condition and pressure according to the manufacturer, brake operation, and lighting and signals. If a fault compromises safety, do not set off until it is resolved. Checking fuel, fluid levels, documents and general condition may also be necessary; it does not replace these mechanical checks. A basic visual check does not replace periodic maintenance either.
