Article 118 of the General Traffic Regulations covers motorcycles with or without a sidecar fitted with a protective structure and seat belts, provided these are recorded in the technical inspection card or characteristics certificate. In those vehicles both the rider and passengers must wear the belt on urban and interurban roads and, under those conditions, are exempt from the compulsory helmet, gloves and closed footwear. Having a sidecar alone does not qualify for this exception; it does not depend on exceeding 500 cm³.
