BDifficulty 2/5

A car has hazard warning lights. In which situation must they be used to signal its presence under article 109.2.c?

Correct answer

When immobilised on a motorway.

When immobilised on a motorway or Spanish dual carriageway, or in places or circumstances substantially reducing visibility, if fitted; use position lights as applicable too. Article 49.3 requires hazards when the vehicle cannot reach the required minimum speed and there is a rear-end collision risk. Not every normal speed reduction requires them, and switching them on does not permit double parking. Exceptional casualty transport under article 70 has specific conditions and does not establish this requirement for every patient journey.
