Press firmly all the way down and maintain pressure, even if you feel normal ABS pulsations. Do not pump the pedal or stop braking because of those pulsations. ABS helps prevent wheel lock-up and preserve steering ability, but cannot guarantee prevention of every skid or shorter stopping distances on every surface.
