BDifficulty 2/5

If a vehicle is overtaking you and the manoeuvre is going to create a dangerous situation, what should you do, as a general rule?

Correct answer

Reduce speed to make the overtaking manoeuvre easier.

As a general rule, reduce speed if danger arises after the overtaking manoeuvre has begun, under article 86.2. Do not accelerate or obstruct it. There is an exception: if the overtaking driver clearly abandons the manoeuvre by slowing, you need not slow when doing so would endanger traffic, but must help them return to their lane. Act smoothly and allow space; facilitating the manoeuvre does not guarantee safety in every case.
