When travelling in a reversible lane. Article 40.1 of the General Traffic Regulations requires at least dipped-beam headlights both day and night in that lane. Being a novice driver or carrying more than three passengers does not by itself create that requirement. Other situations, such as tunnels or reduced visibility, can also require lighting.
