When a following vehicle gets too close, progressively increase the gap ahead to give yourself more time and avoid abrupt braking. Do not brake deliberately to intimidate the following driver or assume they will increase their gap. Additional spacing to facilitate overtaking is subject to article 54.3’s exceptions; it is not required on every road in all circumstances. Always maintain enough room to stop without colliding.
