Correct answer
Apply either brake, together or separately
Either the front or rear brake can switch it on separately; using both does too. They need not be applied together, and it does not depend only on the rear pedal. Check that it responds to both controls as specified in the motorcycle manual; if it fails, have the system checked before riding. The light warns others but does not replace suitable braking and following distance.
