On roads with an acceleration lane, the driver of a vehicle joining the carriageway must check at the start of that lane, stopping if necessary, that they can do so without danger to other road users travelling on that carriageway. They will then accelerate to reach the appropriate speed by the end of the acceleration lane in order to join the traffic flow.
