A1Difficulty 3/5

On a two-wheeled motorcycle with separate brake controls, how should you normally brake to use both brakes effectively on a wet road?

Correct answer

Apply both brakes together, smoothly and progressively.

Use the front and rear brakes together, smoothly and progressively, according to the manufacturer’s instructions and available grip. Reduce speed in advance and increase the gap: water can reduce grip and lengthen braking distance. Using both does not mean abruptly applying maximum force or guarantee avoiding a lock-up. ABS, if fitted, does not remove grip limitations either. Check your model’s brake layout and operation.
