BDifficulty 2/5

A driver parks a car with a manual gearbox on a downhill slope and leaves the driving seat. Which gear must be left engaged?

Correct answer

Reverse gear.

Reverse, in addition to the parking brake. Stop the engine and disconnect the starting system; when leaving, prevent unauthorised use. First gear is left engaged uphill; with an automatic gearbox use the parking position where applicable. An engaged gear does not replace the parking brake.
