Front and rear position lamps are mandatory; at two metres wide, end-outline marker lamps are optional rather than mandatory. Annex X of the General Vehicle Regulations requires end-outline marker lamps above 2.10 metres in width and permits them between 1.80 and 2.10 metres. They supplement position lamps rather than replacing them. This does not mean position lamps are the lorry’s only mandatory lights: it must have all other applicable regulatory lighting.
