BDifficulty 2/5

You park a car-and-trailer combination on a substantial uphill slope beside a kerb and will leave the driving position. Without suitable chocks, how must it be secured in addition to the parking brake and appropriate gear?

Correct answer

Rest one of the front wheels against the kerb, angled towards the centre of the road.

Rest a steering wheel against the kerb with the wheels turned towards the centre of the carriageway. Article 92.3 requires these precautions for vehicle combinations on a substantial slope when the driver leaves the position. Purpose-made chocks are the alternative; do not substitute stones or improvised objects. Stop the engine and apply the parking brake and first gear, or the parking position where applicable.
