Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off the engine, following the vehicle handbook; continuing can damage it. The lamp may normally illuminate when the ignition is switched on before starting and should go out afterwards. A sensor or circuit fault may also produce an incorrect indication; this does not justify ignoring the warning or automatically attributing it to low oil level.
