CDifficulty 3/5

The manufacturer specifies a 12 V system using two compatible 12 V batteries connected in parallel. How are their terminals linked in that connection?

Correct answer

Positive terminals together and negative terminals together.

Connect positive to positive and negative to negative, maintaining a nominal 12 V. Parallel connection adds the nominal Ah capacities of compatible batteries; it does not guarantee double starting current or actual operating time in every condition. Two 12 V batteries can also be connected in series for a 24 V system, so their number alone does not determine the connection. Follow the manufacturer’s wiring diagram, protection and specifications.
