A2Difficulty 3/5

The scene is safe and someone else is calling 112. An injured person has heavy bleeding from a leg. What should you do to begin controlling it?

Correct answer

Apply firm direct pressure to the wound.

Apply firm direct pressure to the bleeding area with a dressing or clean material and use gloves if available. Covering without pressure is insufficient. Life-threatening bleeding not controlled by pressure may require a tourniquet: follow emergency-dispatcher guidance and your training. Do not delay bleeding control while waiting for help.
